Renovation of Shantytowns Holds up the People’s Dream of Comfortable Living During the Two Sessions, the Report on the Work of the Government of Yuxi City pointed out that the construction of security housing should be enhanced and 10,000 households in urban shantytowns should be renovated. According to the unified arrangement of the CPC Committee of Yuxi Municipality and the Yuxi Municipal People’s Government, these projects will have been completely under construction by October this year covering over 10,000 households over 1,500,000m2. Renovation of Rural and Urban Waste Improves Environmental Health The environment was dirty, disorderly and bad, the environment sanitation facilities were old-fashioned, the problems of rubbish disposal were severe, the regulation mechanism was incomplete and the urban and rural management was in disorder. So, beautiful Yuxi still had many unkempt factors affecting the rural and urban environment. Therefore, Yuxi Municipal People’s Government has initiated a renovation of urban and rural waste by the second half of last year to carry out the waste renovation model mainly on city and countryside integration and supported by on-the-spot disposal and guided by the Sanitation in Group, Collection in Village, Transportation in Township and Renovation in County and District through intensive participation and detailed measures so as to solve the problems of dirtiness, disorder and melancholy. Yuxi Municipal People’s Government has required every county and district to actively carry out waste renovation activities in urban and rural areas based on the concept Comprehensive Coverage, Long Effective Management, Demonstration and Drive, Keeping a Normal State via the Insistence on Government Leadership, All People Participation, Adjusting Measures to Local Conditions, Rural and Urban Integration and Comprehensive Renovation. Meanwhile, Yuxi Municipal People’s Government will establish a long-term mechanism for sanitary controls in urban and rural environments with a division of rights and responsibilities, coordination and unity, norms of science and will mobilize cadres and masses at all walks of life to participate in the renovation of urban and rural waste, with the acceleration of infrastructure construction for urban and urban sanitation as the breakthrough, and strengthening people’s awareness of civilization and sanitation and the construction of a clean city and beautiful home as the key, so as to cultivate a good situation with complete sanitary facilities, perfect and orderly rural and urban management mechanisms, a tidy and clean urban and rural appearance, and sound human settlement. Yimen County has deployed sanitary facilities and personnel in towns and townships, and has carried out concentrated renovation activities over 200 times. Yuanjiang County has publicized duty cards in mountainous areas, villages and groups, implemented the villager co-peasant household on-duty system and carried out concentrated renovation at regular periods to lay a solid foundation for the renovation of rural and urban waste. Hundreds of Demonstrations and Thousands of Renovations Have Made Yuxi More Beautiful Constructing an artificial wetland, implementing an aquatic landscape project, reconstructing the cultural center square and normalizing village planning construction and other construction are the construction planning for the demonstration village established by Shangmou Xichong Village, Liangwangba Community, Gaocang Sub-district, Hongta District, which is supported by the high officials of the district and sub-district and is on the basis of widely taking advice from high officials after being approved as one of 100-Village Demonstration Construction Units by the municipal committee. The village government has given priority to the transformation of rural houses, improvement of environmental health, hardening of village roads, and green & beautifying village, actively promoting construction on the Hundred Village Demonstration and Thousand Village Renovation project. Implementing the Hundreds of Demonstrations and Thousands of Renovations project is a specific practice for our city to implement the Opinions on Promoting Beautiful Village Construction of the provincial committee and provincial government and comprehensively implement a four-year village beautification construction plan. Aiming to beautify village construction and focusing on its weaknesses, the city will regard reform and innovation as breakthrough strategies with strong pushes and promotions to achieve villages and townships’ beauties in ecology, appearance, living and customs. This year, the city will finish 40 demonstration village construction projects and 400 village renovations. According to working guidelines that making quality villages with characteristics by taking one area as an example for the rest of them to follow, insisting on development in areas along national highways and provincial highways, around the Three Lakes, around towns and cities, and ethnic villages as the main points, the city will manage the village via connections between leaders at the city & county level and municipal departments and between organizations and enterprises to strengthen its inspection and instruction on demonstration villages and renovation village constructions. Meanwhile, the city will earnestly formulate construction plans on demonstration villages and renovation villages, highlighting natural scenery, colorful ethnic cultures and regional features, remaining regionally diverse, protecting of local culture and ethnicities so that they can show off their own unique beauties. We will largely implement Cooperative Shares projects to strengthen the foundation and benefit the farmers through close integration between the construction of village demonstration and renovation with the rapid development of industries with countryside features, will promote the sustainable growth of farmers’ income and develop the collective economy, will completely eliminate empty villages and strengthen the economic power of weak villages so as to strive to build a new path in the beautiful countryside with Yuxi characteristics.

In the first half of this year, the foreign economic cooperation developed along with foreign trade, Yuxi’s import and export value reached of $373 million, indicating an incretion of 38.2% compared with the same period of the previous year, ranking No. 4 in Yunnan Province, accounting 33.2% and 32.5% respectively of the annual objectives and tasks of province and city. In the first half of this year, Yuxi’s foreign trade achieved three substantial growths. First, commodity exports increased sharply. The fresh fruit exported with a value of $145 million, an increase of 94.9%; the fertilizer exported $36.46 million, an increase of 6.4 times; dried fruit exports value $29.96 million, an increase of 16.6 times. Second, Tonghai County realized an import and export value of $187 million, accounting for 50.2% of that of the whole Yuxi City, an increase of 1.1 times; Third, 18 companies with an import & export value above $5 million, their total value added up to $291 million, showing a year-on-year growth of 76.6% and accounting for 78% of the whole Yuxi City. The leading companies are strong supporting force to Yuxi’s foreign trade. During the first half of this year, the work of foreign economic cooperation pushed forward orderly. Three new foreign direct investment enterprises have been reported and recorded. They are, Maoyuan Fruit and Vegetable Import and Export Co., Ltd set up by Yunnan Maoyuan Fruit and Vegetable Import and Export Co., Ltd. in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam; Rongsheng International Agriculture Co., Ltd. wholly-owned by Yunnan Rongsheng Industrial Co., Ltd. in Bangkok, Thailand; Pan Asian Hongta Co., Ltd. Invested by Yunnan Province Yuxi Hongta Aluminum Factory in Bangkok, Thailand. The linked development between foreign trade and foreign economic cooperation became a feature of Yuxi in recent years. 　　The Celebration Symposium for the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO and 30th Anniversary of China’s Ratification of the World Heritage Convention & Seminar on Establishment of the National Park System has been held 20-21 October 2015, at the Yuechun Hotel in Chengjiang County（Chengjiang Fossil World Heritage Site）, Yunnan Province, China. The Symposium was jointly organized by the World Natural Heritage Conservation & Research Centre (WNHPRC) and the National Park Agency under Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, P. R. C. (MOHURD) and UNESCO Beijing Office, and supported by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the People’s Government of Yuxi Municipality. The Forum brought together authorities and policy-makers from the Chinese Central Government, UNESCO, representatives from IUCN and ICOMOS, and renowned experts and scholars in the field of World Heritage. 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of China’s ratification of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and the 70th anniversary of the founding of UNESCO. To celebrate these milestones, the forum reviewed China and UNESCO’s journeys through respectively 30 and 70 years of history, highlight the role and the contributions of China’s World Heritage mission, and shared with the public lessons and experiences learnt by China in promoting and ensuring natural and cultural World Heritage protection. The forum also highlight the important role that UNESCO had in spreading knowledge, promoting dialogue between cultures and enhancing scientific research. 　　The themes of the Forum was divided into three main areas: 1) reflections on the past 30 years since China’s ratification of the Convention and the 70 years of the founding of UNESCO, including the achievements made and lessons learnt; 2) how to further strengthen the international cooperation and communication between China and the world; 3) discussion on the future conservation and management strategy of World Heritage sites in China, including capacity building, management effectiveness, scientific research, protection, tourism development, local development, heritage education for youth, cultural exchanges, and the establishment of the national park system.
