China-Laos Railway:Successful Completion of the Tongda Tunnel, Half a Month Ahead of Schedule

On July 16th, after more than four years of hard work and half a month ahead of schedule, the Tongda tunnel on the China-Laos Railway line built by the Fifth Bureau of China Railway, was successfully completed. It marks another major breakthrough in the construction of the Kunming-Vientiane Line on the China-Laos Railway. At 4.30 am on July 16th, deep inside the Tongda tunnel, builders cheered and waved flags to celebrate the completion of the tunnel. The Tongda tunnel in Yuanjiang Hani, Yi and Dai Autonomous County, is 11298 meters long and rates as a national level-1 high-risk tunnel. The Tongda tunnel was completed 15 days ahead of schedule. So far, 95% of the tunnel construction in China and more than 90% of the bridge projects have been completed, and the earthwork for the roads are close to completion. This all laying a solid foundation for the completion of the whole railway by next year. It is reported that the China-Laos Railway under construction is a landmark project of “the Belt and Road” Initiative and the friendship between China and Laos. The China-Laos Railway is more than 1,000 kilometers long, of which the Yuxi to Mohan Line in China on the China-Laos Railway is 508 kilometers long. After completion and opening to traffic, it will only take approximately three hours driving from Kunming to Jinghong in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. It is estimated that leaving Kunming in the evening you would arrive in Vientiane by the next morning. Source: Yuxi Release
