The opening ceremony for the International Cultural Exchange Base for Overseas Chinese was held at the Memorial Hall of Yuxi, Nie’er’s Former Residence. In November 2020, the Memorial Hall of Yuxi, Nie’er’s Former Residence was confirmed by the Chinese Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese as the eighth round of overseas Chinese international cultural exchange bases. It is the first national-level overseas Chinese cultural exchange base in Yuxi. The cultural exchange base serves as an important window to promote exceptional Chinese culture and promote cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, the base is an important platform for the Federation of Overseas Chinese to integrate social resources, promote complementary advantages, and work together to carry out cultural exchange activities at home and abroad. On December 28th, National Forestry and Grassland Administration issued a Notice on the Results of the Pilot Acceptance of the National Wetland Park in 2020 with the Yuxi Fuxian Lake National Wetland Park making it onto the list. Yuxi Fuxian Lake National Wetland Park (Pilot) has been approved by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration making it the only one of 137 national wetland park pilots approved for construction in Yunnan Province in 2015. In accordance with the principle of unified planning and phased implementation, a compound wetland park was built to display Chengjiang City’s image and cultural characteristics as well as its tourism, and economic benefits. On December 22nd, 2020, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism officially announced the fifth batch of 337 representative projects selected as national intangible cultural heritage. Among them, Huayao Dai Costumes in Xinping County, and the Huagu Dance of Yi Nationality in Eshan County were selected as National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Projects. Huayao Dai's costumes are very rich in color, pattern, and shape, which all tell of the Huayao Dai's ethnic worship, folk customs and traditions. The Huagu Dance is a popular folk dance in Yi villages, with a history of more than 100 years. It is a way of expression for Yi people to worship ancestors and nature or to pray for peace and love. The 2020 China-South Asia Online Expo wrapped up recently and according to statistics, 406 Yuxi products were displayed online, from vegetables, fruits, flowers and tea to fertilizers, medical equipment and masks. The value of online export orders reached 8.3 billion Yuan, with approximately 80% of this coming from Vietnam, Thailand and other ASEAN countries. On September 23rd, 2020, Yuxi Municipal People’s Government and China Mobile Yunnan Branch signed a strategic cooperation agreement for China Mobile's data center to be established in Yuxi. So far, the three primary telecom operators China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom have all built 5G core communication networks in Yuxi and the two data centers of Huawei and China Unicom are already in operation. Together with other data centers, Yuxi City has the service capacity of 20,000 servers, and carries more than 130 government and enterprise systems in and around the city. On November 29th, Yuxi Chengjiang Fuxian Lake Elite Race of the 2020 Colorful Yunnan Gryffindor International Cycling Festival was held on the banks of the beautiful Fuxian Lake. The competition was sponsored by the Yunnan Provincial Sports Bureau and Yuxi Municipal People's Government. The event was organized by the Social Sports Guidance Center of Yunnan Province, the Yuxi Municipal Education and Sports Bureau and the People's Government of Chengjiang City. 2020 is the seventh year that the Gryffindor International Cycling Festival has been held in Yunnan and the fifth time to take place in Yuxi. In accordance with the requirements for epidemic prevention and control, this competition was changed from a traditional multi-day race to a single-day elite race. While an innovative online race event was introduced for the first time. The competition attracted 299 people from seven countries and regions to register. They climbed more than 1,500 meters travelling through two peaks with an altitude of more than 2,000 meters experiencing a classic track that combines both beautiful scenery and physical challenges.
