

According to a recent Associated Press report, January 3rd, 2022 marked one month since the China-Laos Railway opened for operation. During this first month, a total of 670,000 passengers and 170,000 tons of cargo with more than RMB 500 million yuan have been transported. The China-Laos Railway is 1,035kms long in total 145kms of which are in Yuxi, Yunnan province. The Yuxi stretch boasts five stations: Yuxi, E'shan, Yanhe, Huanian and Yuanjiang. According to the Publicity Department of CPC Yuxi Municipal Committee, on December 23rd, 2021, Yuxi Station saw a total of more than 85,000 passengers. Since the first international freight train of Yuxi departed from Yanhe Station on December 27th, more than 50 containers of temperature controlled cargo have been transported. Also according to the American Market Watch of Dow Jones, you can easily experience the unique natural scenery and cultural customs of Yuxi by taking the China-Laos Railway train. For example, as the only world heritage fossil site in Asia, the Chengjiang Fossil Site reveals the history of evolution of living organisms in the Cambrian Period and is known as “one of the most amazing scientific discoveries in the 20th century”. According to the Yuxi Municipal Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Development, on January 21st, Yuxi completed transformation of 586 old residential quarters. This project which began in 2019 involved 30,101 households covering a total area 2.97 square kilometers and an investment of RMB 1.095 billion yuan. During the transformation, the Yuxi government insisted on the idea of people as the center, and focused on the needs of residents, focusing on upgrading sewage treatment, electricity, electronic communications, water supply and pipe network. Physical walls and the illegal buildings were removed to effectively expand public space and put idle plots to use. On November 30th, 2021, the signing ceremony of the "Border Railway Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic" was held by a live stream video-link in the respective capitals of Beijing, China and Vientiane, Laos. This agreement is the first intergovernmental cooperation document in rail transport between China and Laos. Based on the principles of mutual respect, mutual benefit, safety, quality, convenience and efficiency, the two sides agreed on important matters within the border stations and their inter-station areas. At 7:52 am on November 5th, a dynamic detection train departed Kunming Station. After comprehensively testing the works, electricity and power supply from Kunming to Mohan Station along the China-Laos Railway, it arrived at Mohan at 12:10. Dynamic testing is a comprehensive test of all systems on the entire line using specially designed trains and testing equipment and is performed at a preset testing speed. The dynamic test gives a comprehensive assessment of the route and its safety and is an important step before the railway is opened for use, helping to ensure that the China-Laos Railway can be opened for use according to schedule. The China-Laos Railway is a railway running between China and Laos, and is an important part of the Trans-Asian Railway's central line. The China-Laos Railway starts in the north from Yuxi City, Yunnan Province in China and passes through Pu'er City, Xishuangbanna and Mohan at the China-Laos border.
