In March 2021, Tonghai officially became the seventh National Historical and Cultural City in Yunnan Province, the first and only one in Yuxi. This national honor gives us a broader, three-dimensional view of Tonghai, reassessing the depth of its history over thousands of years. Scholars have found that there is a "golden passage" connecting the North and the South through Tonghai in Yuxi, and it is this international passage that makes Tonghai famous for thousands of years.Even if only a few words can be found in the official history of an ancient city, we can reproduce the ancient appearance of Tonghai with the help of local documents, archaeological excavations, cultural relics, folk memory and other means, and thus confirm that Tonghai is deservedly awarded the title of "National Historical and Cultural City".
