
Tonghai County Association of Mongolian Horse Head String Instrument Unveiled Nameplate
In order to propagate the culture of horse head string instrument, to inherit the art of the instrument, to improve the whole construction level of culture, and to meet with the needs of amateurs, Tonghai County Association of Mongolian Horse Head String Instrument was founded on March 23, 2017 and unveiled its nameplate on July 23, 2017 at Ethnic Culture Square of Xingmeng Township, Tonghai County, Yuxi Municipality, Yunnan Province.
The instrument consists of a trapeziform wooden-framed sound box to which two strings are attached and its scroll carved into the shape of a horse head. The instrument is loved by Mongolian people.
It is said that a shepherd took the bone of horse leg as pillar, horse skull as tube, horsehair as strings, then the Two-string Instrument was made and its scroll carved into the shape of a horse head to reminisce his dead horse.
The art of horse head string instrument represents fairness and frankness of Mongolian people. The foundation of the association will promote the culture of horse head string instrument, to find and develop more talents in horse head string instrument, to inherit the art, and to propagate ethnic culture.
