Intention Letter concerning the Development of Sister-city Relationship between Yuxi of the People’s Republic of China and Oddor Meanchey of the Kingdom of Cambodia Was Signed
On September 18, 2018, Mr. Zhang Dehua, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Yuxi Municipal Committee and Mayor of Yuxi Municipal People’s Government led an economic and trade delegation to sign an intention letter concerning the development of sister-city relationship with SOR THAVY, Governor of Oddor Meanchey, in Samraong, Oddor Meanchey, the Kingdom of Cambodia. The two sides would carry out exchange and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, culture, tourism, etc.
During the exchange, SOR THAVY introduced the economic and social development of Oddor Meanchey Province. Oddor Meanchey Province is located in the northwestern of Cambodia, with a total area of 68,400 square kilometers and a total population of more than 240,000 people. The main industry of the province is planting industry. There are a large number of rubber, sugar cane, papaya, corn, pepper, mung bean, lemon and so on. It is endowed with gold, gemstone, coal and other kinds of mineral resources. The province is rich in tourist resources.
SOR THAVY said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia 60 years ago, the friendship and cooperation between the two sides had deepened day by day. Under the impetus of “Belt and Road” cooperation, Cambodia’s economy had also become more prosperous. Cambodia got strong support and help from China in reducing poverty and other aspects. It was hoped that through the visit of Yuxi delegation, the two sides could develop close cooperation in various fields and promote the economic development of the province in the future.
Mr. Zhang Dehua introduced the economic and social development of Yuxi. He said, the friendship between China and Cambodia went back to ancient times and the friendship between the two peoples was profound. With “Belt and Road” cooperation, Yunnan, Yuxi and Cambodia were more closely linked. In recent years, the cooperation between Yuxi and the local government of Cambodia had made great progress in economy, culture and tourism. In May of 2017, Yuxi Municipality also set up a business representative office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The signing of the intention letter was only a good start for cooperation and exchange between the two sides. In the future, Yuxi would focus on the cooperation with Oddor Meanchey for better cooperation and common development. It was hoped that the two sides would set up high-level exchanges, and establish a long-term mechanism for friendly exchanges of visits & contacts to enhance mutual understanding and to promote cooperation between the two sides. At the same time, it was necessary to carry out active and pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science, technology, culture, tourism and etc., so that the cooperation between Yuxi and Oddor Meanchey Province could become a model for cooperation between China and the local governments of Cambodia.
The officials of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and the Commerce Bureau from Yuxi Municipality and the officials of the government from Oddor Meanchey Province attended the meeting and witnessed the signing of intention letter.
