Construction for Sponge City got Achievements
“Dongfeng Square has become more beautiful and we feel very comfortable when walking here.” a citizen in Yuxi Municipality, Yunnan Province said.
“The playground is waterlogged as soon as it rains. After Dongfeng Square is reconstructed, people wouldn’t be worried about the waterlogging any more when their children go to play on the playground even it rains.” Mr. Zou Wenkun, head of Yuxi No. 2 Kindergarten said happily.

According to the requirements for building sponge city of “ecological, safe, vigorous and beautiful”, we improve city’s functions, upgrade city’s quality, and build sponge city with clear river, green bank, harmonious ecology and comfortable living conditions with plateau characteristic to realize the development strategy of “good water ecology, safe guarantee for water, improvement on water environment, beautiful water scenery, and rich water culture”.
Dongfeng Square being sponge modification, the control rate of total annual runoff will be 92%. Yuxi No. 2 Kindergarten couldn’t be waterlogged after being sponge modification, and children get some ideas about sponge city......As one of the second series of trial cities for building sponge city, Yuxi begins to build sponge city with trial area of 20.9 square kilometers. The control rate of total annual runoff is 82% and the daily rainfall is 23.9 mm, which meet with the requirements of sponge city. An initial success has achieved in building sponge city after one year construction.
At present, Yuxi launch all the projects for sponge city in trial area. 70% tasks for sponge city will be finished by the end of 2017. All the projects for sponge city will be completed in 2018 and the waterlogging disaster at Yuxi downtown will be conquered.
