580-year-old Holy Trees of Litchi
In recent days, the journalist visited Chunyuan Village Committee, Zhelong Township, Xinping County, Yuxi Municipality, Yunnan Province and saw 580-year-old litchi trees growing well with spreading branches, luxuriant foliage, and red fruits. According to the Record from Yuxi Municipal Forestry, several litchi trees at Chunyuan Village Committee were introduced from Thailand about 1433 AD. These litchi trees were 580 years old, so they were called the Holy Trees of Litchi.
Chunyuan Village Committee was located at the foot of Ailao Mountains. The three litchi trees were in the front of the public houses, south Chunyuan Village Group. Some villagers were tasting the fresh litchi. “The litchi trees are not fruitful this year. While they were so fruitful and splendid the year before last ” Mr. Wang Baoyou said.
The three litchi trees were just like a triangle in layout. The distances were from 4 meters to 12 meters. The average height was 20 meters. The root parts of the trees were so strong and three adults could embrace the strongest tree. The three trees formed a huge umbrella and became a good place to relax for more than 400 villagers from 107 households.
