Huaxi Township is to the south of Huaning downtown, at the border of Huaning County, Tonghai County of Yuxi Municipality and Jianshui Countyof Honghe Prefecture. It is 27 kilometers away from the county town, 82 kilometers away from the Hongta District, and 170 kilometers away from Kunming. Huaxi is the homophony of “flower land” in Yi language, meaning a place with flowers, trees and streams. The township lies in the Qujiang River Valley with an agreeable climate for growing oranges, so it has been known as the home of oranges. The growing area along the river amounts to 17,500 mu with a yield of 20,000 tons annually. An eco-agricultural and creational tourism zone has formed with representative orange growing gardens including the Dinggong Mountains Orange Garden, demonstration garden of sub-tropical fruits growing, and Shangtuozhuo Orange Garden Restaurant.
