
Unique Xingmeng Mongolian Nationality
At Baoyou Period in the Southern Song Dynasty, i.e., in 1253, Kublai Khan, the great Mongolian King, led troops to conquer Yunnan. After his return to the North, Kublai Khan assigned Wu Liang to rein Yunnan, ending the control of the Yuan Dynasty in Yunnan.
The troops stationed in Tonghai started their life in Hexi and Xingmeng with farming and fishing as their major means of living. Xingmeng Township nowadays governs five natural villages and is the only area in Yunnan where the Mongolian inhabits.
Xingmeng Township has a history over a thousand years. It has a unique Mongolian culture. It possesses about twenty scenic spots such as the Three Saints Temple, the Three Religions Temple, the Xiaohaitang, and the Ethnic Culture Park, which attract thousands of visitors. It is called “home to southern Mongolian people”, “home of singing and dancing”, “home of architecture”, and “home of sweet melons”. With tourism as its brand, Xingmeng now has become a zone that integrates sightseeing, recreation, and experiencing of ethnic customs.
Xingmeng has unique tourism resources with convenient transportation and an agreeable climate. The Mongolians living here have formed their unique “three-folding” costumes after transition from nomads to fishermen to farmers. They also have established their own Kazhuo language. The famous “three dishes” and “three glasses of liquor” have become the typical culinary of the southern Mongolian people. In recent years, the overseas visitors exceed 6,000 and domestic visitors, 10,000 every year.
