627 Young Athletes from Yuxi Set Off for the Provincial Games

On July 9, the inauguration and departure ceremony for the Yuxi Youth Sports Delegation participating in the 17th Yunnan Provincial Games was held at the Yuxi Sports School.

At the ceremony, the CPC Yuxi Municipal Committee and Yuxi Municipal People’s Government expressed their gratitude to the athletes and coaches for their long-term dedication to training and meticulous preparation, as well as to the staff members who have provided comprehensive logistical support throughout the process. Looking back on four years of intensive preparation, Yuxi’s young athletes have demonstrated remarkable determination and achieved encouraging results in the preliminary competitions. CPC Yuxi Municipal Committee and Yuxi Municipal People’s Government expressed high expectations for all participating teams, encouraging them to train scientifically, prepare strategically, maintain peak competitive form, and compete with determination and confidence at the Provincial Games. They also expressed the hope that the athletes would showcase the vitality of Yuxi’s youth, contribute to the continued development of the city’s sports programs, and return home with outstanding results.
It is reported that the delegation consists of 627 athletes, supported by a full team of coaches, resident sports physicians, sports rehabilitation specialists, and logistics personnel, ensuring comprehensive medical, rehabilitation, and logistical services throughout the competition. The delegation will compete in 21 sporting events, including athletics, swimming, football, and basketball, achieving full participation across all official disciplines.
At the ceremony, Wang Meirong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Yuxi Municipal Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the Municipal Party Committee, presented the delegation flag to the youth sports team. On July 24, the themed event “Technology Empower Safety for a Stronger Nation” was held at Wanda Plaza in Hongta District. During the event, staff introduced practical knowledge on earthquake prevention and evacuation to citizens, and guided them step by step to activate the earthquake early warning function on their mobile phones. With diverse content and engaging formats, the event offered participants an immersive learning experience. On July 27, the 2026 “Spending Summer Vacation at the Library” series of activities organized by the Yuxi Municipal Library officially began. More than 20 primary school students from across the city gathered at the library. On July 26, in the 20th round of the Chinese Football Association Super League (CSL), Yunnan Yukun once again staged a thrilling goal-scoring battle against Shenzhen Peng City at their home ground. With both sides fighting fiercely and switching rapidly between attack and defense, the match kept fans on the edge of their seats. In the end, Yunnan Yukun secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over their opponents, completing a league double against Shenzhen Peng City this season. Shantou Community of Liqi Subdistrict, Hongta District, sits at the heart of the Yuxi Science, Education and Innovation City. Adjacent to the Yuxi Plateau Sports Center of Yunnan Province. It receives more than 6,000 athletes each year for training. In recent years, guided by Party building, the community has capitalized on the growing sports economy to develop an integrated ecosystem featuring sports events, athlete training, accommodation, and tourism. This approach has continuously boosted residents’ incomes, upgraded local industries, and improved the living environment. In 2025, Shantou Community was designated as one of Yuxi’s key villages for the integrated development of agriculture, culture, and tourism. On April 19th, the 2nd Cuoke Watermelon Festival was held in Ganzhuang Street, Yuanjiang County. Using watermelons as a medium and the festival as a platform to make friends, it showcased the development achievements of watermelon industry in Cuoke and shared the joy of watermelon harvest. Cuoke Village has been growing watermelons since 1992. Thanks to its climatic advantages of abundant sunshine and large temperature differences between day and night, the watermelons grown here are highly favored by consumers for their sweet taste, large size, and juicy flesh. In 2025, Cuoke Village expanded its watermelon planting area by approximately 100 mu, bringing the total area to over 300 mu. Households engaged in watermelon cultivation account for 75% of the village's permanent population. With continuous improvements in planting techniques, each mu of watermelon field yields about 2 tons of watermelons, generating an output value of 3.6 million yuan.
A few days ago, Yuxi City Tonghai County Dashu Community 5th "fish Festival · Long street banquet" was held alongside Qilu Lake for tourists to experience interesting farming. Dashu community has held "Fish Festival · Long Street Banquet" activities for five years, through the integration of agriculture and tourism, to promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional agriculture to sightseeing agriculture and leisure agriculture, and to create a new model of experiential rural tourism.
