| ¡¡¡¡Yuxi, a fascinating land resting in the middle
of Yunnan Province, has been known as the Home of Nie¡¯er, the Home
of Yunnan Tobacco and the Home of Huadeng Opera. Nie¡¯er, born in Yuxi, was the composer of the National Anthem for the People¡¯s Republic of China and has been regarded as the People¡¯s Musician. ¡¡¡¡Yuxi has a long history in planting high quality tobacco. In 1914, some improved tobacco was first introduced from foreign countries into Yuxi. At present, Yuxi tobacco and cigarettes are traveling throughout the whole country with its top quality, leading by the famous Hongtashan brand cigarettes, named after an ancient tower built in the Yuan Dynasty. ¡¡¡¡Huadeng Opera is a Yunnan local opera composed of different branches, of which the Yuxi Huadeng Opera, a popular traditional folk art with a long history, has always been an important branch. |
