| Yuxi is located between 23°19′and 24°58′North
Latitude, 101°16′and 103°09′East Longitude, with an altitude ranging
from 328 to 3,137 meters. Its annual rainfall averages 700-900 millimeters
and its annual temperature varies between 15.5℃ and 24℃. These features
help to give rise to Yuxi’s unique and diversified climate and ecology.
It is in Yuxi that one can find the Fuxian Lake, the second deepest
fresh water lake in China. Yuxi also boasts rich mineral resources,
530,000 tons of nickel (with a purity up to 1—1.2%), 2.06 million
tons of copper, and 470 million tons of phosphorus. Rare metals like
cobalt, gold, lead, zinc, and none-metal minerals like gypsum, quartz,
serpentine, as well as geothermal and mineral water resources worthy
of commercial exploitation. Over the last few decades Yuxi has developed a comprehensive and full-fledged industrial sector which covers such areas as tobacco, mining and metallurgy, power-generating, machinery-manufacturing, textile, leather-processing, sugar, paper-making, printing and packing, chemicals, foodstuffs, building and building materials and plastics.
